Frequently asked questions

We started operating on 23 January 2025.

We are currently researching what our grant application process will be. As soon we we know when our funding window opens we will send an email update.

Please sign up to our mailing list to keep up to date.

We will mostly support voluntary organisations. The voluntary sector, often referred to as the third sector, includes organisations that are non-profit-making and operate for the benefit of the public or specific groups of people.  Voluntary sector organisations often focus on charitable, social, educational, environmental, cultural, or recreational purposes and operate independently of the government, even though they may receive government grants or contracts.

Many voluntary organisations depend on volunteers and may be structured as:

  • Charities or Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Community groups, such as local clubs and associations (for example, youth groups and environmental clubs)
  • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
  • Social enterprises, businesses with a social or environmental purpose
  • Faith-based organisations

The Health Lottery Foundation distributes money raised by The Health Lottery players. A minimum of 20% of every lottery draw ticket and online scratch card purchased goes towards good causes. From 23 January 2025, The Health Lottery will operate on behalf of The Health Lottery Foundation. We are responsible for making sure that the money flows into communities in a way that makes a real difference to people’s lives.
