Dying Matters Awareness Week (5 – 11 May) is designed to break the stigma about death, dying and grief – something that impacts every one of us. Rest of life care, delivered by hospices will be at the front and centre of conversations during this week. Tapping House is a hospice helping people find comfort and joy right to the end of their life.

Nicola Elis, CEO, Tapping House said,

“We work with everyone as an individual, supporting them on each step of their journey. This year the hospice will support over 1,500 patients and their families. This equates to around 4,500 people. We work under the principle we were founded – you matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”

Working with families to create a good death experience since 1984

The charity, formerly known as Norfolk Hospice – celebrates 40 years of delivering care to patients and their families this year. The team work out in the community and in the Hospice, delivering personalised support in the place and way that matters to patients.

Hospice care is extremely specialised and takes a huge about of investment to fund. As an independent charity Tapping House have a fundraising target of more than £4,500,000 to be able to offer the support that’s needed.

£15K from Health Lottery players to support rest of life care

£15,000 has been given to support specialist rest of life care to patients and their families. The Health Lottery Foundation chose to offer a grant to Tapping House, because of the breadth and variety of rest of life care they are offering. The funds donated will contribute to:

  • End of life care in a nine- bed state-of-the-art inpatient unit (IPU) with 24-hr specialist nursing
  • Hospice at home support, offering pain-free as possible care in the home environment
  • Running The Tulip Centre – rehabilitative palliative care run by specialist health professionals
  • Expert bereavement care and support for family members

Nicola said,

“We have a huge fundraising target and we’re grateful for every donation, whatever size. Together, we can make sure that no one in our community faces their final moments without the care, compassion, and dignity they deserve.”
